Fried Egg Breakfast Sandwich

A just-set fried egg, melting cheese and a charred tomato between toasted whole wheat. The weekend breakfast worth getting up for.

What you need

  • 2 slices Whole Wheat Sourdough
  • 1–2 eggs
  • 1 slice cheddar
  • 1 tomato, halved
  • Butter
  • Lettuce
  • Salt & black pepper
  • Optional: hot sauce

Make it

  1. Toast or butter-griddle the whole wheat until golden.
  2. Fry the egg to your liking; lay the cheese on while it is hot so it melts.
  3. Char the tomato halves in the same pan.
  4. Build it: egg and cheese first, then tomato and lettuce.
  5. Season, close, and eat straight away while the yolk is soft.

Tip. A few drops of hot sauce or a smear of chili crisp takes this from good to genuinely addictive.
