Classic Tuna Salad Sandwich

Creamy tuna salad with real crunch and a squeeze of lemon, stacked on toasted whole wheat. The lunch that beats anything from a packet.

Classic Tuna Salad Sandwich
made with Whole Wheat Sourdough

What you need

  • 4 slices Whole Wheat Sourdough
  • 2 cans (140g) good tuna, drained
  • 3 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 celery stalk, finely diced
  • 2 tbsp red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp capers or chopped pickle
  • Squeeze of lemon
  • Salt & black pepper
  • Lettuce & cucumber
  • Butter, for toasting

Make it

  1. Flake the drained tuna into a bowl.
  2. Fold in the mayo, Dijon, celery, red onion and capers.
  3. Brighten with lemon, then season with salt and plenty of pepper.
  4. Lightly toast the whole wheat slices.
  5. Pile the tuna salad on, add lettuce and cucumber.
  6. Top, press gently and cut on the diagonal.

Tip. For a hot tuna melt, top the open sandwich with cheddar and grill until bubbling, then close it up.
